Types of Roof Materials Part 2

Types of Roof Materials. Careful selection of your roofing material helps you save yourself from the hassles of constantly repairing your roof. Therefore you need to know what roofing materials there are, and how one differs from the others. There are about seven most popular types of roof materials.

Composition shingles are roofing materials that are made from either fiberglass or asphalt. These are durable, clean-looking, and affordable. They also require low maintenance and are environment-friendly.

Clay tiles are roofs that look modern. They last for years because they don’t rust or get rotten. They also don’t require much maintenance. The only downside of this roof material is its weight. It is quite heavy and fragile, so walking on them may break them apart. That is why installing and repairing them can be really difficult.

Wood shakes are roofs that have a natural look. They function as an insulator to your home, such that it absorbs much heat from the sun. It also allows air to circulate through the house. Though this is a good feature, it can easily be nested with molds and insects therefore it does not last as long as the other roofing materials.

Metal roofs are durable, stylish and almost free from maintenance. These are also cheaper compared to other roofing materials. Apart from these, they are mostly recyclable, so they are environment-friendly. The problem with it is that installing the roof is a bit hard, and requires professional help.

Concrete tiles are long-living roofs and they also require low maintenance. They are also fire and insect resistant, though they can be a bit pricey.
